It is more a love story between Edward and Bella and the vampire thing is a side story. I love how Edward not killing people has been brought up as him being defective or something. There are several vampire stories where they do not eat people. This is not a new concept. Vampired simply need blood to survive like we need food. They can survive on animal blood just fine. Granted people are the food of choice but they can live on Animals. On the tv show Angel he lived on pig blood because he was cursed with a sould and could not eat people or he would be ravaged with guilt. Edward sees himself as a monster so the fact that he does not drink human blood is believable. Carlise the "father" views it more like a disease and has taught his family to believe the same way. - littlekittyy74
